As COVID-19 increased the popularity of telemedicine for a wide variety of uses, this review, published in 2021, intended to gather data on the use of telemedicine specifically as a weight loss intervention.
Overall, the review found that telemedicine interventions can lead to clinically meaningful weight loss. In addition, telemedicine for weight intervention is an especially popular choice among patients.
The review also notes that videoconferencing is a particularly useful in enabling interpersonal connection and may lead to more weight loss relative to other forms of telemedicine.
